Upcycled Basket Weaving workshop
September 3, 2023 @ 10:00 am - 1:00 pm UTC+9.5
This weaving workshop will be held at the Slow Fashion September Adelaide launch weekend market at the Market Shed on Holland on the 3rd of September.
It’ll be facilitated by Karo (@frita.karo) – an artist, weaver, arts therapist & graphic designer.
Participants will be able to incorporate many seemingly unrecyclable (or at least easy to discard) objects to make a bowl or a basket during this 3 hour workshop.
We’ll be using provided chenille needles, raffia and other materials, but feel free to bring something you might want to weave with (like strips of fabric, old charger cable that doesn’t work, marine debris, something else??).
It’s an experimental space and everybody’s style of weaving and object will differ, so it’s important to put the inner perfectionist aside and bring a sense of play. What we’re trying to achieve is simply a new and functional object made out of something that otherwise would end up in a bin.
No previous skills are required.
We’ll be using both hands intensively, so make sure you have a break when you need it!
People of all ages are welcomed, but if you want to bring a child with you, please consider the length of the workshop.
